Opening Meeting Results

Cup O' Joe has had their Opening Meeting and the shifts are mostly filled. We will officially open on Sunday the 14th at 8:00pm!! Shift training will be at 10:00pm on Sunday. We have all of our curtains in!! The Meeting Minutes are as followed

The new president, vice president, and secretary were officially introduced. Yay!!

Our new curtains have arrived. They still need to be hung, but it is exciting. They're a nice shade of blue.

The officers attened the SA meeting the previous night and recieved the budget request form. The officers will be meeting soon to discuss the budget.

The mood lighting still needs to be hung up in both rooms. Once we have more time we will set up a date to get everything put up. Help is needed for that because most of the officers are too short to reach.

We need ideas for monthly activities. A Twister party was mentioned, and was greeted with lots of excitement. Other ideas included a game night, or having a local band(from off campus maybe).

There will be a Measure meeting Wednesday the 17th at 9:00pm.

It might be helpful to purchase more stools, because the ones we have keep falling apart. One collapsed at the start of the meeting, so that might be something we figure into the budget request.

The treasurer announced some of the new rules for the budget request. SA has developed some new rules which are listed on the form. We also have to fill out mroe forms, and give SA an updated copy of the Cup O' Joe constitution.

8:23 - Remembering Veterans of Pearl Harbor
Finals week setup at coj - first room games and chatting, then pocket door is half/completly shut. Second room is quiet study room. Finals hours will be posted - looks like we will be open mostly for usual times.
A computer with linux from the computer center will be installed next semester. It will have a wireless internet connection.
Curtains are in the works and will be very nice and, better yet, washable.
Lighting will be hung next semester - neatly.
Appeciation for the work done at cup o joe
Thanks (and chocolates) given to Allison, Danielle, and Jessica. Without them Cup O' Joe would not have reopened after the fix. They have put a lot of care and, cleaning, and work into this place. Thank you also to all those who helped them out.
Before opening the floor up to elections, the President announced her resignation. Due to the fact that she is a senior, she wants to guide the succeeding president, so that he or she is comfortable and that COJ can be managed well.

Popcorn Christmas

Cup O Joe has recieved the popcorn popper! We will have the supplies for it shortly.
Cup O Joe is open on Nov. 26th from 10pm to midnight.
I hope that you will be pleased to know that this is the first time in history that Cup O' Joe has a Christmas Tree! Yes, it is only 4' tall, yet it was only $20. It is fiber optic too! Shopping was done at a dollar store over break, and there are ortaments and a star to decorate the tree.

Meeting Minutes

First of all, thank you so much to those who cleaned up, Cup O Joe could not go without you! We had our meeting, and here are the minutes:
Start: 8:27pm
We are in operation!! Couches are covered with throws because they will not be shampooed until the weekend before break.
Discussed optional lighting to replace the broken halogen lamp

The decorative lighting that was originally in the first room needs to be put back up again. Planning on a certain time to have a group come and put up.
Lighting in second room will be replaced with rope lights. Once purchased (planned to be completed when break is over) will need to put up nails evenly and hang the lights.
Curtains are a work in progress
Thank you to the Dean for keeping us in mind when an alum donated a new popcorn popper to Core XI and offered the former popcorn popper to Cup O' Joe. We will have a popcorn popper! :)
Our budget currently is approx. $1,200. Discussion of next budget request.

Clean Up

The repairs are completed at Cup O' Joe! We no longer have a cracking ceiling above us. A new ceiling grid was installed, carpeting, baseboard, re-wiring, and more. We will be open for clean up only. All the furniture has been moved correctly, yet there is a lot of cleaning and sorting to be done...Cup O Joe is full of boxes. Please stop buy this week and help us out. The more the help, the sooner we open. Thank you!

Under Construction

The ceiling fell through, or avalanched, in the mail room. The mail room shares a wall with Cup O Joe. Needless to say, there was a mess at Cup O' Joe and it has now been gutted. Physical plant is working very efficiently, and if you see them down there give them your thank yous. While the acustic ceiling was being torn down, the falling plaster hit an old pipe which caused it to burst. There is a wall that might need repainting and they told me that we will definitly need new carpeting due to the water and the plaster and thatch mess.
Despite these events, we will be having our famous annual Scary Story Night on Tuesday 31st. We will conglamorate the costume party with it. We will be located behind the "haunted" theatre where the music lounge is. The costume party starts at 8pm, and Scary Story Night starts around 10:30, when people return from Trick or Treat for the Hungry. Scary Story Night starts with historical factual events on campus and the recorded myths. Afterwords there may be discussion, then people share their experiences. By then, everyone is pretty creeped out. Everyone is welcome to share a scary story. There will be beverages and snakes....I mean snacks. Please do not bring any model airplanes or chainsaws. Thanks. Also, if you are interested, you may bring a liter of pop or a bag of goodies/sweets. I have purchased a small cake, mixed nuts, tootsie rolls, and cups.

Reading and Meeting

A warm welcome back to the Measure literary group! There will be a reading at 8:00pm at Cup O' Joe on Wednesday the 13th. We hope to meet you there!

Cup O' Joe is open to all SJC students. If faculty pass by, they are welcome to. As we are busy, it is asked that everyone please observe the portion limits, as everything is free. For any questions, ask the shift worker present.
Cup O' Joe has been a nice, laid-back place for many years, yet was sadly neglected or poorly kept in the past. We are very glad to see its return as a service and facility to students, as it is a great place for us to go and study, play games, spend time with others, meet new people, and have a drink or snack. Cup O' Joe runs simply by your work and support.
There are still some things that need attention at Cup O' Joe. We still have haphazard furniture, ages old, yet thoroughly cleaned by the steamer we invested in last year. There is a loveseat that is missing all four legs, a three seater with one demolished arm, and a recliner that is patched and has bad springs, and, well, simply needs to be replaced. I would like to say thank you for all people who have come to Cup O' Joe and have been non judgmental about this. We try to make Cup O' Joe as warm, comfortable, and casual as possible. It has been requested in our budget to hopefully replace these old damaged items.

We are Hopping

Cup O' Joe has had a wonderful first week of operation! We are enjoying the new freshmen and other newcomers.
As the numbers have increased for Cup O' Joe, the inventory list for the inventory committee will be posted by Wednesday. Whoever will be doing this must first contact Holly (hhj4968, or ex: 8277) and let her know who will be purchasing. Only the items that are listed are to be purchased.
A huge thank you to all shift workers; because of you we have a smooth schedule.
Cup O' Joe will be closed for Labor Day weekend. We will reopen on Tuesday the 5th at 8:00pm.

Another New Semester!!

Yeah!! I am very excited about another NEW semester. A welcome to all the freshman, this is a great place to go. It is a wonder why people don't visit more often, especially since it is all free.
To business: First of all, there will be a Cup O' Joe meeting on Thursday, the 24th at 6:30 pm(time subject to change, see facebook for updates) to organize the shift schedule. The coffehouse cannot be open without your help. Bring a new student with you if you can :)
Next, Cup O' Joe, as usual, opens up a week after classes. This is to allow for a week of cleaning, so I will need more than four arms and legs. A new Bistro set has already been assembled, yet everything needs to be vaccumed, cleaned, and all wood polished. Furniture needs to be moved and the floor needs to be cleaned behind it. All the furniture and carpeting will be cleaned with the steamer vac, but can only be done after a good cleanup first. I appreciate all of your help. Those who help out in the first week (weekend) will have the privalage to vote for the next piece of furniture to be sent to the dumpster. It is my hope that Cup O' Joe, piece by piece, will become better and updated. Curtains will especially be an improvement.

End of Semester

As we come closer and closer to the end of the semester, we get to approach a nice end of semester gift.....Final Exams! Yep, and it is understood that it is an inconvienience to work until Midnight and have a final exam at 8:00 am the following morning. All workers, please let Holly know via e-mail (facebook or sjc mail) if there is a shift you cannot work. Holly will send out an e-mail to shift workers about what shifts are not covered, and what shifts that need to be covered. All information will need to be e-mailed by Thursday the 27th so the hours can be posted. Also, quieter time will start on the 27th for final studying.
A big thank you to all those who helped this semester with cleaning and improving Cup O' Joe. Your help is greatly appreciated. Before the end of the semester, all keys need to be turned in to Holly. If you cannot turn it in to her, slip it under the Cup O' Joe door. Thanks.

Shifts and Social Atmosphere

The new shift schedule is printed. I will e-mail workers the schedule. There are still four spaces open. These nights are Sunday 10-12, Monday from 8-10; Tuesday 10-12; and Wednesday 8-10. E-mail Holly at hhj4968@saintjoe.edu if you are interested.
Closers, please take care of closing duties, and you are also more than welcome to ask others to help out. Make sure vacuumming is also done. Also, if anyone is painting more than a little picture on the wall, let them know that it has to be approved by the President, or, if it is to take up the whole wall, it needs to be passed by the majority (coj members) and the President at a meeting. Thank you for your help.
The social atmosphere at Cup O' Joe has changed over the year. We used to have our regulars, doing homework or games, and then those who dropped by every now and then. This is totally acceptable. Yet, regulars, please remember to not feel as though Cup O' Joe is your personal place. It is a place shared by all other SJC students and visitors. Be polite when playing games and where these games are taking place ( and if you take a game out, PLEASE put it together and back). Welcome newer people, and remember, Cup O' Joe welcomes everyone and hopefully gives a relaxing, fun environment.

Meeting Results

Cup O' Joe has many exciting improvements coming up. New lights for the first room will be hung up this week. If you wish to help with decorating and cleaning, e-mail or call Holly. We will be decorating by 6:00 on Monday and Thursday, and Friday night. Holly will possibly be working at 1:00 on Saturday, yet that will be confirmed later this week.
Cup O' Joe has $2,618.56 in its account. We are still looking for a short, circular, glass top card table for the first room. We will look into replacing some furniture near the end of the semester.
For people who are purchasing things for Cup O' Joe, such as the inventory committee, please remember about the tax exempt form. At Wal-mart you can get a tax exempt card. See Amy Genova or Holly Herber for any questions.
The new shift schedule is here! We have many nights open. These are Sunday:8-10, 10-12; Monday:10-12; Tuesday: 10-12; Wednesday: 8-10. If you are interested, please e-mail Holly at hhj4968 or on facebook. Let Holly know if you are new to your shift or if you need a refresh.
Painting was also cleared by a vote. Of course, no significant artwork is being painted over.
Due to the fact that there are many holes in the shift schedule, and that there is dirt all over because we are restringing the lights and the ceiling tile debris is everywhere, COJ will be closed this week for cleaning (steam cleaning). Operations will resume on Monday 23rd (possibly Sunday 22nd). Please have patience and understanding. If you want COJ open more often, please pick up a shift.

COJ's New Year's Resolutions

I hope everyone had an enjoyable, relaxing break. If it wasn't relaxing because of work, I hope your hard work paid off.
Cup O' Joe will be reopening Sunday,January the 8th at 10:00 pm, after the 9pm mass. If anyone is interested in opening and working from 8-10, please let Holly know at hhj4968@saintjoe.edu.
There will be an opening meeting this Thursday, the 12th, at 7:00pm. It is realize that it is in the consitution that we have meetings on Wednesday, yet we will discuss ammending the meetings to either Monday or Thursday, depending upon what suits the majority of member's schedules. The reason for this change is that our advisor cannot make Wednesday night meetings because he is out of town on those nights. Also, the president will be working on Wednesdays (and Tuesdays), and it required for the President to run the meetings.
There will be many exciting improvements occuring at COJ. One great item is that we have invested in a carpet and upholstry cleaner, which was discussed last semester. Only the president is allowed to operate this cleaner.
Also, a band is coming to COJ in February. They are touring coffee houses in Chicago, and will also be coming to COJ. There are many improvements needed at COJ that will be completed before the band's arrival. If anyone cares about the appearance of COJ, they will understand how the curtains need to be changed. New curtains will transform the appearance of COJ. They will be measured and taken in to be sewn. Durning this time (the president will bring all the supplies) we will be painting the wall above the counter, and the window wall that does not contain any art.

Happy Break

Cup O' Joe will be closed during Thanksgiving Break. It will be shut down. COJ will reopen Sunday Night, no later that 10:00 pm, in time for people to come down after the 9pm mass. I hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable break.
COJ will be getting a short round card table for the first room on the right. We will also be getting a few bean bags.
COJ hopes to be getting new fabric for the curtains measured and sent for sewing soon. New curtains will renew and transform the appearance of COJ. There will be a meeting concerning this soon after break. COJ would like to see these things in progress and finished before things get tight with upcoming finals. Halloween Time, Explaining the Unexplained

Cup O' Joe is a proud supporter of Halloween. Cup O' Joe is famous for its enticing scary story night. Scary Story Night takes place at 10:30 on Sunday night. There will be scary story recitations about the unexplained occurring on campus. On Monday night will be a Scary Costume Party from 8-12. Please come and have a, well, Halloween that is simply unexplainable.
Also, another first Wednesday of the month is coming soon. The meeting will be on Wednesday, November the 2nd. Right now the time is set at 7:20. Important things will be discuss. A few people from the Upkeep and Inventory commmitties will need to be present.

First of all, congratulations to the new voted in treasurer, Amy Genova. Amy Genova is a junior with treasury experience from Manchester College.
Our two committees, Upkeep and Inventory, will help COJ greatly. The Upkeep committee will be looking into new curtains, and the Inventory committee will be looking into bulk purchases.
This week's goal for the Coffee house is to have all the shifts filled this week and set for the remainder of the semester. I will have shift backup workers too. If you are interested, please post it on the facebook group page, or e-mail Holly (hhj4968).
Next week's goal is aiming for a well stocked inventory.
Our apologies for the inventory this week, yet we have incurred unexpected insufficiencies. This is good news in terms of a significant increase in COJ members and visitors!

We also have two committees; the up-keep and inventory committee. We will need be organizing a meeting possibly for next week, especially the inventory committee. The up-keep committee can even agree for a meeting together next week on their own time, yet an officer will need to be present. Mid-Terms are here, and break it this Friday. It is planned that COJ be closed this Friday since there are no classes and everyone will be home or elsewhere, yet if it ought to be opened by popular demand and a shift-worker can be found, please let Holly know.

A Group Effort

There will be a meeting THIS Wednesday the 5th at 7:45 pm. Your voice and presence will be very important for this meeting! There will be a vote for a treasurer. We will also be organizing committees. Two primary committees will be the Inventory Committee and the Up Keep committee. The inventory committee will receive a list of items from the President and they will purchase these items. They are responsible for all their receipts and for turning these in to the treasurer, who will reimburse them. The Up Keep committee will be responsible for concerns such as obtaining new curtains and possibly creating a mosaic table. They are also responsible for work orders and the overall aesthetics of COJ. These groups, unlike officers, will not be required to have a shift at COJ.
